“Yoga helped me recover from the tragedy of my brother’s death and helps me, every day, to maintain a centered awareness in my life. I’m busy — I run a studio, am in a new training, writing a training manual myself, working on publishing a book, and trying to keep my head above water financially as well as take care of myself physically, emotionally, and sexually.
Yoga is sitting in the center of who you are and looking at all of the moving parts and being so grounded and non-attached, that none of those moving parts take you for a ride. In that way, you own them and can move them around according to your needs, needs that change from day to day.
The community I serve in Provincetown is full of artists, writers, tourists, queers, punks, and all the best kinds of people. There wasn’t a lot happening there in terms of yoga so, once I realized that the paths of yoga were my dharma, I made an effort to build a strong yoga community from the ground up. It has paid off. This year we had sixteen weekly classes, multiple workshops, and I’ve just booked out my men’s retreat in Mexico in the spring.
